Below is a list of very brief casestudies highlighting some of the people we have helped. All the people mentioned in the case studies have successfully moved on with their lives. We appreciate that each case is different and we have well qualified staff at hand ready to help, no matter what your circumstances.
Adam
Adam was referred by the local authority. He was homeless and sleeping rough. He had left home because of physical abuse from his father and moved around. He had a history of alcohol abuse and self harm. DISC arranged a homelessness interview and persuaded the local authority to place him in temporary accommodation while a homeless assessment was carried out. He was found to be in priority need and offered a tenancy.
Jack
Jack was a young man diagnosed with Schizophrenia who was living with mother, and his partner who was pregnant. He was referred to DISC by the local authority because his mother’s accommodation was small and overcrowded. His needs were assessed and a support plan was developed with his agreement.
Kelvin
Kelvin was referred to the floating support scheme by the local authority, as he was threatened with eviction due to the condition of his flat. It was very dirty and he was not clearing it up at all. That was due to the fact that he was feeling isolated, Kelvin had no friends and his family wanted nothing to do with him.
He could not find employment or training, and was being harassed by local drug dealers. His support worker liaised with the housing officers and they jointly came up with a plan to tackle the problems within the accommodation.
Teresa
Teresa was referred to us by social services leaving care team as she was due to leave foster care and move in to her own tenancy – a one bedroom flat in Norton, Stockton on Tees. She had been in care for two years after leaving her mother’s home due to problems with her step-father. Teresa was bullied at school and suffered from depression. She also attempted suicide several times. Teresa's support worker helped her move into a flat and supported her with general tenancy issues such as access grants for furniture and fittings.
