] True Stories
Below are two brief stories of people we have helped and the problems they have faced.
Kerry (Stimulant User)
Kerry was a heavy stimulant user who had decided to access Orbit 20 due to severe health problems. Through the help of liasing with health workers Kerry was able to overcome this. Kerry always wanted to go into nursing or become a drugs worker. To help with travelling to college a key worker was able to gain access to driving lessons through Durham County Council, Kerry passed her test first time. She was then able to embark on an access course in nursing and also volunteer with the OutThere Project in Gilesgate which is a Peer Drugs Education Service. Kerry completed her access course and is now in her first year on a nursing course at University.
Terry (Alcohol & Cannabis)
Terry was a cannabis and alcohol user which was impacting heavily on his life. His daily routine included getting up to smoke cannabis then going to the shop for his alcohol. Terry made the decision to get his life back in order and referred himself to Orbit 20. With the help of a case worker Terry became a volunteer. The nature of the work meant Terry could not use cannabis or drink if he was to embark in voluntary work. During this time Terry gained a Drugs Level Two Certificate and is now in the process of gaining his Drugs Level Three Certificate. Through his commitment it has been agreed that Terry will become a volunteer with Connect in Gilesgate. most importantly Terry is now drug and alcohol free and has chosen to take an abstinance approach.
